The Property Management Services Authority (PMSA) organised this evening the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) webinar on “Management Practices” to strengthen property management (PM) practitioners’ knowledge and skills in mediation and applied information technology (IT). Speakers for the webinar included Dr Francis LAW Wai-hung, president of the Hong Kong Mediation Centre, and Dr Jason CHAN Kai-yue, MH, JP, member of the PMSA and convenor of its IT Working Group.
The webinar attracted over 250 participants from the PM industry, of which most were licensed property management practitioners (PMP), including formal and provisional licensees. All licensed PMPs who participated in the seminar would earn two recognised CPD hours under the PMSA’s CPD scheme and would be awarded an electronic certificate of participation by the PMSA.
The PMSA Chairperson Mr Tony TSE said, “In light of the ever-changing social environment and with the continuous development of the PM industry, PM practitioners have to update their knowledge and professional skills through continuing education in order to cope with new challenges.”
Chairperson TSE added, “Handling disputes related to building management, leasing, maintenance or amongst residents are part and parcel of the PM job. If legal action is to be taken, parties concerned will incur financial and time costs. If these disputes can be managed by adopting appropriate mediation techniques, the possibility of conflicts and the need to resort to legal action will be minimised, thereby reducing the related PM costs and workload on handling disputes. Separately, PM companies have already widely adopted innovative technology in their services and facilities to enhance productivity at work, save costs, raise service standards and provide more effective and tailor-made PM services. This also reflects the development of the PM industry of Hong Kong towards enhanced quality and professionalism.”
The PMSA launched the CPD scheme as from early 2022 to encourage licensed PMPs to participate voluntarily in CPD activities or courses organised or recognised by the PMSA during the transitional period of the licensing regime (up to July 31, 2023). These activities or courses are diverse in topics and formats and PM practitioners may choose to participate based on their interests and needs. As of April 25, 60 activities or courses organised by PMSA Recognised Professional Bodies have been recognised under the Scheme. The PMSA will continue to work with industry bodies, relevant Government departments and public organisations to arrange various PM-related seminars and activities as well as to offer industry practitioners more opportunities for continuous education.
