Near 200 Members of the Property Management (PM) Industry participated in the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Seminar organised by the Property Management Services Authority (PMSA) in the evening today to strengthen their awareness on building maintenance and scaffolding work safety.
Under the theme of “Management Practices”, the PMSA invited Mr. Michael WONG, Senior Structural Engineer, Existing Buildings Division, Buildings Department to speak at the seminar on the topic “Building safety – You should know”, Mr. Lawrence NG, Chairperson, Task Force on Truss-out Bamboo Scaffolds, Construction Industry Council and Mr. Yen CHUNG, Manager – Construction Safety Industry Development, Construction Industry Council were invited to share with the industry “Safety Tips of Truss-out Bamboo Scaffolds”. Most participants were property management practitioner (PMP) licensees, including formal and provisional licence holders; and all PMP licensees who participated in the seminar would earn two recognised CPD participation hours under the PMSA’s CPD Scheme and would be awarded an electronic certificate of participation issued by the PMSA.
Chairperson of the PMSA James WONG said, “Accidents can occur easily if property management companies (PMCs) and PMPs do not adopt appropriate safety measures when handling building maintenance and scaffolding works. The PMSA would wish to express appreciation to the Buildings Department and the Construction Industry Council for sharing with the PM industry on building maintenance and scaffolding work safety in order to safeguard and raise the occupational safety standard of the industry when carrying out such work, thereby minimising the chance of an accident.”
Chairperson WONG continued, “In addition, to further strengthen the industry’s safety awareness on property maintenance as well as work carried out at height, having consulted various stakeholders, the PMSA has formulated for the PM industry the Codes of Conduct “Handling Suspended Working Platform Works” and “Handling Scaffolding Works”and their related “Best Practice Guides”, and licensed PMCs and PMPs can comply with the guidelines set out in them and enhance safety in their work.”
The PMSA has launched the CPD scheme since early 2022 to encourage PMP licensees to participate in PMSA-organised or recognised CPD activities or courses on a voluntary basis during the transitional period of the PM licensing regime (up to 31 July 2023) in order to strengthen their professional knowledge and skills. These activities or courses are diverse in topics and formats and cover aspects including Professional Knowledge, Law and Regulations and Management Practices with the aim to encourage those in the industry to advance with the times and raise their professional standard.
As of December this year, over 140 activities or courses organised by PMSA Recognised Professional Bodies have been recognised under the CPD Scheme. The PMSA will continue to work with industry bodies, relevant Government departments and public organisations to arrange various PM-related seminars and activities so as to offer industry practitioners more opportunities for continuous education.
