The Property Management Services Authority (PMSA) held its first Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activity – Professional Series on 7 May. More than 200 practitioners of the property management (PM) industry had participated, and most were holders of PM licence, including formal licensees and provisional licensees, reflecting that the industry has a strong demand for participating in such PM related seminars.
The purpose of the “CPD seminar – Professional Series” organised by the PMSA is to raise the industry practitioners’ awareness about the latest developments in the PM industry, continue to enhance the professionalism of the industry, as well as to keep the industry abreast of various latest developments. The PMSA has invited representatives from the Home Affairs Department (HAD) and the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) to speak at the seminar. The speakers briefed the participants on the Mandatory Terms in Deeds of Mutual Covenant under the Building Management Ordinance, the Building Management Support Services provided by the HAD, as well as the “Building Drainage System Repair Subsidy Scheme” launched by the URA in response to the concerns about public drainage problems under COVID-19. In addition, PMSA’s representative also spoke at the seminar and explained the Codes of Conduct and Best Practice Guides issued under the PM industry Licensing Regime, which are closely related to the operation of the industry.
Mr Tony TSE, the PMSA Chairperson said, “The seminar marks a major step forward for the Hong Kong’s PM industry towards the enhancement of quality and professionalism. All participants will receive electronic certificate of attendance issued by the PMSA. In future, the PMSA will continue to organise similar seminars in respect of different PM areas so as to help cultivate CPD culture in the industry. At the same time, it is hoped that the industry can go from strength to strength and continue to work together for enhancing its professionalism, and strive to provide the public with better quality PM services.”
PM work involves multiple areas and has to deal with such matters at various levels. PM services cover various professional aspects such as building management and maintenance. In order to enhance the knowledge of the practitioners about different aspects of the PM industry, the PMSA will systematically launch the “CPD Scheme” from this year onwards so as to promote the development of the culture of continuous learning in the industry. Themes of the “CPD Scheme” will cover professional knowledge, regulations and management practices, and it will seek to encourage practitioners to keep up-to-date about PM skill set as well as technical knowhow, so that practitioners could provide the public with better quality and more professional PM services.
Chairperson TSE added, “Due to the impact of the epidemic, the seminar was held online. It is hoped that the epidemic will be brought under control soon and we could meet face to face in future seminars which could be held physically.”
